The “a” in Cat6a stands for augmented. Cat6a is fully compatible with Cat6 and Cat5e but improves performance over booth. Cat6a operates at up to 500 MHz, providing extra bandwidth which doubles the effective distance (328 feet) at which the cable can transmit 10 Gbps to 100 meters. Structurally Cat6a has two more twists than Cat6. This makes the cable more robust and resistant to crosstalk. Cat6a has additional shielding built into the cable structure which makes the cable thicker and heavier while providing a more reliable solution for eliminating alien crosstalk.
